Dr. Lavena founded the practice after resolving her own debilitating migraines and anxiety — not with another prescription, but by changing how she ate, moved, and cared for her mind and spirit. That experience shaped everything about how we practice: we believe healing happens in relationship, that being truly heard is part of the medicine, and that kindness and compassion belong in an exam room as much as lab results do.
It’s also why we built more than a doctor’s office. Our Waltham home includes a wellness center with mind-body programs — meditation, yoga, qigong — because we’re trying to build something rare in healthcare: a supportive community that heals together. Yes. A large share of our members come from Boston, Cambridge, Brookline, and Newton. The drive to Waltham is typically 20–25 minutes from downtown, parking is free, and telehealth visits are available across Massachusetts between in-person appointments.
Can Inner Healing Medical be my primary care provider?
Yes. Our physicians and nurse practitioners can serve as your primary care provider, handling preventive care, prescriptions, and referrals, with functional and integrative medicine built into the same relationship. Each provider cares for their own patient panel.
Do you take insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans for medical visits (not MassHealth or MassHealth-affiliated plans). Membership fees, specialty functional laboratory testing, and certain wellness services are separate from insurance. We’ll explain exactly what’s covered before you enroll.
What is functional medicine primary care?
It’s primary care that keeps everything conventional medicine does well, including screening, diagnosis, prescriptions, and referrals, while adding a deeper investigation into why symptoms occur: nutrition, gut health, hormones, sleep, stress physiology, and environmental factors. The goal is to address causes, not only manage symptoms.
Do you offer telehealth?
